Yesterday Joop and I visited friends to meet their newborn baby, Nero. I bought this sweet little onesie, but also wanted to make him something myself. Since I’m still happily learning to crochet, I thought I’d crochet him a baby hat. He is five weeks old, but also born five weeks early, so I assumed he was going to be a small baby. I took this information and my plans to Evelien and together we set out to crochet a baby hat, both not having seen a baby in a while nor knowing how small his head would be.
When Evelien’s first hat was finished (and I was still trying to remember the stitch), we both agreed it looked so very small and that it should probably be bigger. We were wrong! Though baby Nero wasn’t as small as I’d expected (though still so very small!), the baby hat I ended up making was quite a few sizes too big. The parents assured me he could wear it in autumn and I can only hope it won’t be too small by then.

Don’t worry! We’ll try out the hat every once in a while!
He won’t miss his ‘crocheted hat’-window ;-)
awesome first job, the hat looks perfect to me! i too would have no idea what size to make a baby hat, their clothing also looks impossibly tiny.
I had twins that were born 5 weeks early and yes they were so small! But believe me they grow so fast, so little Nero will soon be wearing his wonderful, blue hat :)
